Rod Brind'Amour was cemented as a Carolina Hurricanes legend long before he stepped behind the bench as head coach in 2018. Having etched his name through the record books in the coaching category, it seems like the only thing left for Brind'Amour to do is win the whole dang thing. As each game passes it becomes harder to say which part of Rod's career has been more valuable to the organization. The grinding two-way player or the unimpeachable head coach? It's a debate that will go on long after Brind'Amour tucks his whistle into a draw.
When Carolina faces off against the Seattle Kraken on October 19th Brind'Amour will move into second place for games coached in franchise history. It's a small move in the standings. But, a meaningful one. Sadly, it seems unlikely that Brind'Amour will want to coach as many games as Paul Maurice. Thus Brind'Amour is likely just running up the score for any successors.
Top 5 Games Coached in Franchise History
Paul Maurice - 920
Jack Evans - 374
Rod Brind'Amour - 370*
Bill Peters - 328
Peter Laviolette - 323
In his first five seasons, Brind'Amour has already achieved the best winning percentage in franchise history. Under his leadership, Carolina has won back-to-back-to-back division titles. Four of the top five regular season campaigns in franchise history have been under his watch. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs Brind'Amour has not only coached more games than anyone else in franchise history. He's been the bench boss for more playoff games than every Hartford Whalers coach combined.
Even with all of his achievements since taking control of Carolina's bench Rod Brind'Amour knows that none of it matters as much as bringing home Lord Stanley's Cup.
Carolina starts the regular season Wednesday against the Ottow Senators inside of PNC Arena in Raleigh.
